Playground at the Neurorehabilitation house

Baggrund

Challenge: In January 2023 Rigshopitalet will open a new state-of-the-art hospital for patients in rehabilitation after traumatic injuries to the brain or spinal cord, called the N-house. Patients are admitted to the N-house for an extended period, often 3-12 months. N-house will host 125 patients, out of which  4-8 will be children. Besides the children in rehabilitation, there will also be visits from children who are next-of-kin to patients.

The staff would like to be able to offer an aesthetic, challenging and fun nature-playground next to the N-house. The playground should be accessible and inviting to both children in wheelchairs and those without disabilities. The playground should require very little maintenance and be beautiful in all seasons.

Relevance: The latest research in neurorehabilitation suggests that outdoor sensory stimulation can have positive cognitive effects for patients, and particularly in Scandinavia the new frontiers in healing architecture include natural landscapes. The N-house would like to contribute to advancing this important field of health care.

Strategic Design Proposal: E.g. sketches of the entire playground; sketches of health tech elements: e.g. swings for wheel chair users; sandboxes in various heights; trampolines? Floral shielding, etc.

Strategic dimensions: A project plan for user involvement, tender (udbud), permits, building process, etc.

Business dimensions: This project need external funded: needs estimation of costs and resources: building and operational; needs suggestions for fundraising.
