Feeding bots

Potential users

As a part of a national strategy the Municipality of Hillerød has bought 4 feeding bots which should help people suffering from conditions such as ALS or cerebral palsy to serve themselves dinner. Those users are not a large group. But if we include the number of senior citizens in Hillerød Kommune who have difficulties in the motor function of upper limbs, the overall population of target users is a lot bigger and will be growing in the near future. The challenge is however to find potential users amongst our citizens. We have done a lot af screenings and matching. But nobody seems to want to use the robots.

Background

As in many other socities, the aging population in Denmark is growing, which results in more people needing care. In order to continue providing quality care, one has to look at new approaches. Wellfare technology and rehabilitation are such examples. Hillerød municipality helps 1500 elderly citizens in their own home. As part of the Danish Welfare model elderly and weak citizens have granted physical training, practical help (cleaning) and nursing in their home.

“If the Elderly citizen, no longer can take care of themselves in their own homes, they will be offered a care home. The overall approach is the active living approach. The goal is to provide support and training for the citizen to remain self-sufficient for as long as possible.”
